- Now hopefully someone has a workround.
- When I extrude an object, like a rectangle, it goes weird, and all the
- faces on the front face are individually obvious when I render. Also
- when I split (ALT-X) to objects, it seems to change the colour of the
- shape, and I cant restore it. I tried make sharp edges without success,
- as it makes the edges obvious. SO what do I do?

- What do you mean by "weird"?
-
- Do you mean it has a faceted appearance? That's strange.
-
- To be honest, an extruded rectangle (i.e. a shoe box) _should_ have
- sharp edges. I don't quite understand the meaning of your question.
- Perhaps this helps: it's my recipe for (usually) picture-perfect
- sharp/soft edges.
-
- - Make sure your object has the Phong Shading attribute active;
-
- - In Pick Edges mode, Pick All, Functions/Make/Make Soft Edges;
-
- - Click in empty space to pick no edges, then Pick/Edge Filter;
- deactivate Select By Face Count, and activate Select By Face Angle;
-
- - Functions/Make/Make Sharp Edges.
-
- With most objects, this will give you a perfect set of sharp and soft
- edges. (Also great for Quickdraw display)

- Prehaps I worded it badly.
- Say I extrude a box which is setup as 100 by 100 with 1 by 1 sections.
- When I render it I can see the line which goes inbetween the two corners
- of the box, ie the triangles which form the face. Its very annoying.

- If the two faces render with different lighting, you should activate
- Phong shading and properly set up hard and soft edges on your object.
- This should remove any sharp transition.

- Phong shading was always activated, but using soft edges seems to help.
- I think it may be a memory related thing.
